In this paper, Dirac tries to further the developments of a relativistic quantum theory by writing a first order wave equation in time and space. By doing so he resolves some of the inconsistencies of the previous theory mainly due to Klein and Gordon.
As a rather unexpected result Dirac also managed to give an explanation for the existence of the spin degree of freedom, where he derived the previous results by Darwin using his relativistic theory.
